This is a jacquard loom tapestry made by Goblys in France. The tapestry is a recreation of the Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula (A New Complete Map of the Geography of the Earth and Oceans) created by the prominent Dutch cartographer Hendrik Hondius in 1630 and published in Amsterdam. This map is famous for being the first widely distributed map to show Australia. The colors in this tapestry are vivid, and it is the best tapestry version of a map (any map) that I have seen. I want to put it on the wall, but I don't have the space.Every corner of the map is filled with ships, explorers, natives, and mythological creatures. The back is lined with a tan cotton fabric, and there is a rod pocket at the top, with grommets for hanging on hooks or nails if you don't want to use a rod. The size is roughly 33" x 43", and it is 80% cotton, 20% viscose/rayon.
