Typus Orbis Terrarum (Map of the World) Flemish Wall Tapestry by Craye 39 x 54
This is a jacquard loom tapestry in great condition made by Craye in Flanders (France or perhaps Belgium). The tapestry is inspired by a color engraving of Typus Orbis Terrarum on copper by Abraham Ortelius of Antwerp in 1587 with quotes from Seneca the Younger and Cicero. The map itself is part of the first true atlas, which ushered in the golden age of Netherlandish cartography. There is a tan backing with a rod pocket, and the tapestry measures roughly 39" x 54"'. It is a combination of viscose, polyester, cotton, and some other material (perhaps acrylic), and has a little bit of a "distressed" finish. The item "Typus Orbis Terrarum (Map of the World) Flemish Wall Tapestry by Craye 39 x 54" is in sale since Sunday, April 7, 2019.
