The original version of this map was produced in 1569 by Gerard Mercator, perhaps the greatest of the early cartographers. Gerard Mercator's great world map of 1569 was condensed into this double-hemisphere map by his son, Rumold. Intended for navigation at sea. It was drawn on what has become known as Mercators projection, which is still in use.Measures 20 1/2" Across x 14 1/2" Tall. Condition: Excellent (keeping in mind its age).
